Christmas in the Sun

Categories Life, Travel

Every Christmas since I can remember we spend with my dad’s side of the family. So this year it was very fun to go to Miami and be with my mom’s family. Although, being in the sun and heat for Christmas was definitely an adjustment.

It was a very busy week and a half!

  • we celebrated my grandma’s birthday
  • ate Nicaraguan food – my favorite is the fried cheese of course
  • spent a lot of time on Snapchat with my nieces … they are three, four, and five and so cute – my heart melts every time they say Tia (aunt) Emma
  • I played Mexican Train with my grandma
  • celebrated one of my niece’s birthday
  • went to Shake Shack twice – easily my favorite burger place (sorry Dicks)
  • I gave Marty a quick Miami tour – Star Island, South Beach, Key Biscayne and on our way home saw a fireworks show
  • we saw the Florida White House
  • we went to the Pit BBQ where I ate alligator!!!
  • we went to Pinecrest Gardens to look at their Christmas lights display
  • went to mass and saw my niece and nephew sing in the children’s choir
  • we called the cops on my aunt and uncle’s Cuban neighbors for playing their music much too loud on Christmas Eve – the cops had better things to do and the Cuban’s partied till 3 AM
  • opened presents
  • watched the Seahawks lose (thanks a lot Hauschka)
  • and celebrated Christmas!

My favorite memory from the whole trip is when we went to an outdoor dinner with my cousins, nieces, and nephew and right as the waiter was bringing out our food a torrential down pour began. Most everybody was able to get under the umbrellas – except Dale sat in the rain and ate his tacos and there wasn’t room for me under the umbrella so I got drenched. Thank goodness the rain in Miami passes quickly and we were able to get on with our dinner.

This was the first trip to Miami I didn’t lay in the sun and come back with a tan. Overall, it was great fun. I love my family.

Next time I go to Miami will be this year for my aunts 100th birthday!!
