Kennedy Krieger, Baltimore

Baltimore was great. It was so fun to be there with friends from home, see patients I’d met from previous trips, and meet new remarkable people. I had the chance to try several new pieces of equipment – something called the Geo, the Smart Drive (a third wheel that goes under my chair, has a motor, and can essentially push me around, all I have to do is steer), walk with the Ekso skeleton, move my legs by putting electrical stimulation on my spine, and lots more. It was fun to work with a new physical therapist and see old therapists and techs I’ve worked with in the past.

Over the weekend we rented a car and drove up to New York so I could see Marty. The first thing we did on our way was stop at a Waffle House so my dad could check it off his bucket list. Once we got to New York, Marty showed me where he’s been living and going to school the last year. We ate yummy food, had delicious drinks, went on the subway, wandered around the city, laughed a lot, and made new memories. We agreed once he’s home we will never go back to that city –  it’s too dirty, busy, and inaccessible.

Sunday night when we got back we went to a bar to watch the painfully awful Seahawks game. Way too many emotions for me in one game. I cannot believe I stayed up until 12:30 AM to watch us almost lose, win, and end up with a tied game.

My Tio and Tia (uncle and aunt on my mom’s side) happened to be in DC for a few days and caught the train to Baltimore. It was so fun to see them for a few hours and grab dinner. I love hanging out with them. They’re great people.

I got to eat at Shake Shack, one of my favorite burger joints that we don’t have on the west coast. And with all my hard work in therapy I had a great excuse to get dessert from the Cheesecake Factory … twice!

The only bad thing that happened during my trip was I ripped my pinky nail off … thank goodness I couldn’t feel when I did it. The thought of it makes my toes feel like they’re exploding. If that’s the worst thing that happened on our trip I’ll take it!

Oh! And I was invited to go on a ski trip with Kennedy Krieger to Aspen in February that I’m considering going on!

Time to start planning my next trip … look out Miami!
