Fun at the Fair

Categories Life

Hubby and I recently went to the Evergreen State Fair and boy did I feel like a kid in a candy shop. We had SO much fun together.

I think it’s so important in any relationship to make time for each other, going on dates, and making new memories together. After we got married we kind of stopped going out and doing fun things between our jobs, projects around the house, spending time with family, etc. We stopped making time for just us. We realized and decided this needed to change and that at least once a week we’ll go out on a planned date. Our first date after this conversation was the fair. Now I have been wanting to go to the fair for quite some time, I have no memory of having ever been, however, my parents claim they took me and my brother when we were younger. So let me tell you, I had very very high expectations and everything was exactly as I imagined! I love when my expectations meet my reality.

They had every game I could’ve imagined: pop the balloon with the dart, throw the baseball at the milk jugs, shoot out the target, slam the hammer and have the bell ring, and the list goes on. And we played just about every game! I completely felt like Angelina Jolie in Mr. and Mrs. Smith when Brad Pitt takes her to the fair and wins her the giant teddy bear for shooting some target. Marty didn’t win me a giant teddy bear for shooting a target, but he did win me a giant unicorn ice cream cone for throwing a ring onto a bottle … after about 200 tries.

Unfortunately, we didn’t go on any rides. Marty insisted on going on one specific ride and after waiting in line for 15 minutes and having not moved an inch we decided to pass. Clearly we’re a bit impatient and annoyed we didn’t get to cut the line like at Disneyland. They had really fun looking rides, but I’m a bit skeptical to how safe they really all are.

Now for the best part. The food. We actually hardly got any food, but it all looked so delicious. I was determined to get a funnel cake – YUM. Again, I love when my expectation meets my reality – that funnel cake was BOMB. Then we had to go find the food truck my dad and his business partners own that sells cupcakes and edible cookie dough. Marty and I shared a big scoop of their chocolate chip cookie dough and enjoyed every last bite. Next year when we go to the fair, I absolutely plan on spending more time in the food area and eating enough fair favorites until I feel sick.

Later we went and checked out the animals: pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, and rabbits. After realizing the ground was covered in animal poop, which my wheels were rolling in, which I was a pushing with my hands, I got a tad grossed out and we decided to leave the animal area. Oh! And by the way, I now want a pet bunny rabbit. Plus, I think Charlie would be best friends with it.

Needless to say, we had such a great date and time at the fair. Let me know if you want to go with us next year because we will definitely be there! And next year I’m making sure we go to their rodeo. Yeehaw!

Of course, once we got home Charlie tore a part all the prizes.
