Church Hunting

Categories Life

I have been talking about trying to find a new church for quite some time now. Marty and I went to a church for a while that we loved – he would still choose to go there – but I wanted something different.

Here is our dilemma. Marty wants the worship to be great. He’s very particular. I want the pastor to be a teacher. I want to learn and really grow in my faith. I also want there to be a variety of small groups to join. And let me tell you, it’s hard to find the perfect church.

I’ve never been very involved in a church. I’ve never felt at home or connected in a church. I tend to simply feel like another person in a big crowd. My experience has always been I show up to church, am greeted by a few people, sit through the service, and then leave. Nobody really gets to know me and I don’t ever get plugged in.

I desperately want fellowship and community. I’m always envious of people who have close friends they met through church. Recently, a good friend of mine when talking about she and husband said, “we feel like we won the small group lottery.” Talk about jealousy – I want that!

Today we tried a church that is super close to our house. It’s actually the church I grew up going to. When I was little I thought it was boring so I was a bit skeptical going today. Marty had to remind to me to be open-minded. And to my surprise, we both liked it. We didn’t LOVE it, but we liked it. We’re going to go again so that’s at least saying something.

So please wish us luck in our church hunt and that we find a place we feel like we belong. I have two other churches I want to try out – praying that one of them is for us!
